Olympia

after Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann

Premiere: July 11th, 2026

as part of the Directorial Showcase

at the Conservatory of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin

In the fictional state of Olympia, silence is the highest civic virtue. Built on the promises of order, security, peace, and obedience, the regime maintains control through fear, surveillance, and the constant threat of disappearance. Within this system, Antonia becomes the voice of a growing underground resistance. Together with Nicklausse and Miracle, she broadcasts pirate radio messages and organizes acts of dissent, while her partner Hoffmann remains loyal to the state. As repression intensifies, Antonia faces an impossible choice: protect herself and those she loves by remaining silent, or continue to resist at the risk of losing everything.

This production transforms the entire theatre into a performance space. Scenes unfold in the aisles, on staircases, and among the spectators, placing the audience inside the world of the play rather than in front of it. .
Olympia is a radical adaptation of Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann. Drawing on some of the opera’s most iconic musical numbers, the production abandons the original plot to create a new story centered on voice, political agency, and the mechanisms of authoritarian control.
